Housing First Umpqua (HFU) provides direct advocacy services to people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. HFU provides a unique, comprehensive, person-centered advocacy approach to help people, not just get off the streets but do so permanently. We do an extensive assessment of your needs to determine what you require to get and stay housed in Douglas County.
Services We Provide
Housing First Umpqua has extensive knowledge of affordable housing and other community resources, as well as individual program requirements so we can do our best to make sure you do not get the runaround. HFU will not send you to places that will not help you reach your housing goal. HFU uses an authentic referral process when you need to get services elsewhere, so you are actually able to get the services you need.
When you run into barriers, HFU volunteers help you overcome them. What we know can help you search for housing you are most likely to be able to get and keep. HFU works with you to help develop and implement your personal housing plan.
Housing First Umpqua is about empowering people to take control of getting the housing they need and deserve. Besides helping to identify the various affordable housing options for each person, we assist with filling out applications for “affordable housing” that you may qualify for. We also help you overcome barriers that may be preventing you from getting housed. We are currently not housing providers, but affordable housing navigators.
Housing First Umpqua can help you apply for Social Security Disability and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). HFU SOAR volunteers are trained in a nationally recognized program (SOAR) to help you prepare and present the best possible case for your disability claim.
Every person can be assessed to determine potential qualification for SSD/SSI. We will help you learn about what you need to prepare and prove a Social Security disability case. HFU can help you fill out the application, as well as provide you step by step help in making your claim. Depending on your case and HFU resources, HFU may actually represent you in these matters.

Perhaps the most beneficial service Housing First Umpqua provides is help navigating and overcoming obstacles to getting local homeless services. Unfortunately, even when it comes to getting help not all agencies are friendly or helpful. HFU helps you address these problems to make sure you are getting the services you are eligible for.
